Virginia Insurance Continuing Education Requirements

Continuing Education Compliance Date and Number of Hours:
16 hours of approved CE courses if you hold a single qualification.

Under the following conditions individuals holding more than one qualification still only need to complete a TOTAL of 16 hours of approved CE courses each biennium.

Two hours of Insurance Law and Regulations credits must be completed by all agents and/or consultants during each Biennium – no exceptions.

Who is required to meet continuing education requirements?

Each biennium (which ends on December 31 of each even numbered year), resident and non-resident agents and consultants must be in compliance with Virginia CE regulations to maintain their license(s). Resident and non-resident agents or consultants who hold one or more of the following lines or qualifications must meet the Virginia

CE requirements:

• Life & Annuities

• Health

• Life & Health Consultant

• Property & Casualty

• Property & Casualty Consultant

• Personal Lines

• Title

Are any agents exempt from the requirements?
Requests must be supported by documentation and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

License Renewal Date
Each biennium (which ends on December 31 of each even numbered year)

Type of courses accepted for CE Credit
Independent self study courses or classroom.

Carryover Requirements
Carryover credit is only allowed from one biennium to the next biennium.

Course Repetition
Credit will not be awarded for the exact same courses repeated in a single reporting period.

Final Exam
Students are required to pass a final, proctored examination in order to complete their self-study courses. They must be monitored by a disinterested 3rd party.
