Hondros College was founded in 1981 by John G. Hondros, under the name The Ohio Real Estate Preparatory School. Originally based on a test preparatory curriculum, the school quickly grew to include pre-licensing and continuing education for the real estate, appraisal, financial services and home inspection professions. In 1986, the school’s name was changed to Hondros Career Centers to reflect this varied curriculum. In 1990, a two-year associate degree in real estate was added to support the changing licensing needs in the Ohio real estate market. In 1996 the name was again changed, this time to Hondros College, to reflect the needs of today’s professional for continued career education. In 1999, Hondros College added an associate degree in sales, and in 2006 the College was approved to offer two new programs at our Cincinnati locations—an Associate Degree in Nursing and a practical nursing diploma. In April 2008, the practical nursing diploma will be available at our Dayton and Columbus locations, as well, to meet the growing demand for nursing education.
Today, over 80% of the 55,000 real estate licensees in Ohio have attended Hondros College for pre-licensing, post-licensing, or continuing education courses.
Hondros College’s main campus and corporate offices are located on a beautiful campus in Westerville, Ohio. In addition, the College has a branch campus in suburban Cincinnati, Ohio and seven learning sites throughout Ohio to meet the needs of its varied student population. Hondros College also offers many courses online.
In addition to providing continuing education and degree programs, Hondros College also publishes products (exam preparation software, study tools, and online courses) under the name of Hondros Learning providing learning solutions to power the careers of real estate, insurance, and investment professionals. Hondros also owns and operates National Background Check, Inc., a company that fingerprints people for civilian background checks for pre-employment, to obtain licenses, and for child safety reasons.
