Ohio Insurance Licensing Requirements

Effective immediately, due to a fingerprint backlog, the Ohio Department of Insurance is requesting that all insurance license applicants get their required fingerprints at the beginning of the licensing process instead of at the Promissor testing site. This will ensure extra time for the processing of fingerprints and will lessen the time delay of processing your insurance license application. offers fingerprint services, through. All license applicants are urged to come in and get their fingerprints done as soon as they register for self study or on their first day of class.

CLASSROOM LICENSING - Get Started on Your Ohio Insurance License

STEP 1

Register for Hondros College Career Start Package : in person, online at www.hondros.edu or call 1.888.HONDROS

Included in Career Start Package: Pre-licensing Classroom Course, Textbook, Ohio Promissor Testing Bulletin, 6-hour Crammer ™ Course, CompuCram ® Exam Prep Software

STEP 2

Register for the State Exam - Pearson Vue (formerly Promissor) recommends registering and scheduling your exam online:

  1. Go to www.pearsonvue.com
  2. Click on "Insurance" link under "Test Taker" Information
  3. Choose "Ohio"
  4. Choose "Exam Registration - Create Account"

Or, Call Promissor (1.800.275.8361) to register and schedule a test date.

STEP 3

Complete your Career Start Package Licensing Class and Crammer ™ Review Course. Practice for your exam with the CompuCram ® Exam Prep Software.

STEP 4

Complete the NAIC Producer Application / Background Check - Visit www.fastfingerprints.com to schedule your background check.

NAIC Uniform Producer Application - This form is in the Promissor Bulletin or can be filled out online at www.ins.state.oh.us and turned in at the testing center. All testing centers will have a computer available for submission of the producer application. Hondros College printing and filling out the Producer Application prior to testing to ensure that the application is complete and correct. Incomplete or partially completed applications will delay the department in issuing your license.

  1. Background Check - Each Hondros College location has a www.fastfingerprints.com station at the school. The cost is $45 and is payable by credit or debit card. This background check must be submitted to the state to issue a license. Processing will typically take 48 hours.

STEP 5

Take and pass the exam at one of the Promissor locations.

  1. License Issuance - The State of Ohio anticipates licenses will be issued after O.D.I. reviews them within 7-10 business days.
