Hondros Continues the Training and Education of 2,000 Front-Line Healthcare Workers
Charles Town, WV – American Public Education, Inc. (NASDAQ: APEI), parent company of campus-based pre-licensure nursing educator Hondros College of Nursing, today reaffirms its May announcement that Hondros has distributed 100 percent of the $3.12 million it received in emergency relief aid to 1,686 eligible nursing students who were not studying fully online prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“At Hondros, we are proud to play an important role in educating frontline healthcare personnel so they can take care of those in need,” said Angela Selden, president and CEO of APEI. “Of the 1,686 students receiving CARES funding,123 are already working on the job, having since graduated with nursing degrees with RN and LPN eligibility.”
The campus-based Hondros, with nearly 2,000 current students, was forced to move its courses online for the spring quarter of 2020 due to COVID-19. Of the 1,686 students receiving aid, 1,030 received at least $916; 657 students received between $2,900 and $4,000, all based on eligibility requirements. These students could use the grants to help defray costs they encountered as a result of the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19, such as technology expenses.
“The aid came at a time of true necessity because I was able to buy the things I needed to take my online courses,” said Hondros student Shirley Arrington, LPN. “I didn't know what I was going to do to survive to make it through school. I am so grateful.”
Since 2006, Hondros has been graduating high-quality, work-ready nurses who enter the field with exceptional clinical, communication and collaborative skills. Enrollment is conveniently offered four times a year with no prerequisite classes for admission.
“Hondros graduates are fully prepared to become nurses and we are highly focused on doing all we can to help them make a difference at a time when there’s a shortage in this profession,” said Harry T. Wilkins, CEO at Hondros College of Nursing. “We provide a strong foundation so these nurses can lead rewarding and successful careers. An affordable, accessible, high-quality education is a critical part of them achieving their success.”
