HCN Success Stories

A few years ago I got sick, and no doctors or nurses could explain what was happening in my body. After searching high and low, I realized that the research aspect of healthcare intrigued me and inspired me to do more and advocate for women in healthcare. That discovery, paired with my tech background and the influence of my sisters and niece who are nurses, led me to seriously consider a career in nursing. However, in order for me to do that I had to become a nurse first.

Nursing will be my second career. I have a background in engineering project/program management, so being able to use my transferrable skills to align with the research aspect of nursing excites me. So far, I have learned to look at my health and the health of others through a different lens. Nursing informatics is the specialty I want to pursue.

I chose to attend Hondros College of Nursing after visiting several programs; it stood out for its welcoming atmosphere, modern facilities, and bright, well-maintained learning spaces. In order to succeed in the Practical Nursing program, I needed to strengthen key behaviors, like my study habits. Public libraries are my best friends. The environment is quiet and allows me to focus without distractions. I love to write so taking notes is my superpower.

My advice to future nursing students would be to get rid of everything you know about the health care environment. Start with an open mind and invite the willingness to learn outside of your own perspective.
