HCN Success Stories

Britny Bensman and Baylee Latham share their story of attending Hondros College of Nursing together as sisters. They are both in the Associate Degree in Nursing program at the Westerville campus.

What made you decide to pursue nursing as a career?

Britny: I’ve had the dream of becoming a nurse since middle school. My love and passion for caring for others is something I’ve always wanted to explore. My first job in the healthcare field was a phlebotomy technician then I became a medical assistant. After only a few years in the field, I knew I was ready to be a nurse. I obtained my LPN in 2019 and now I am ready to expand my knowledge and skills by obtaining my RN degree.

Baylee: Growing up I always loved helping people. Nursing provides the necessary job stability I desire and there are so many areas of the field to specialize in. It is a very rewarding career.

What made you decide to attend Hondros College of Nursing?

Britny: I prefer a smaller school with a quicker pace since I already went to college and obtained a bachelor’s degree. Hondros College of Nursing offered me a program at a pace I was interested in with a student-to-professor class ratio I felt comfortable with. The college even provides accommodations for me since I am deaf. The best thing about HCN is they offer evening classes with weekend clinicals. This is ideal for those who have children or work during the day.

Baylee: They have four start dates and a schedule that accommodates evening classes. This provides flexibility for me as a student, as I work as a night shift nurse.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about starting nursing school?

Britny: Go to all tutoring sessions, trust me. Also, make sure you have the time to do your studying and homework. Be sure to ask friends and family to help with watching your kids. This is only temporary; in the end, it will be worth it. You have got this!

Baylee: Do it! The staff is very accommodating and will help you in your time of need. The timeline of the program is something to consider, but this means you can become a nurse that much quicker!
